These are more designs that I photographed for interior designer Jeff Johnston, based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Many of the furniture pieces are one of a kind designer specifically for the spaces they’re in. Jeff took the time to design all the details so I made sure all those qualities were seen in the photos. Once again the lighting subtle, but there’s quite a bit happening in most shots in order to illuminate heavy shadow areas, create areas that pull your eye, and to color correct conflicting light sources.
Regularly when photographing a space, distance is key to balancing proportions. However, the dinning room and table photographed above resided in such a tight space that the only way to show the whole space was to shoot with the camera only 3 feet away. To have one good balanced shot, I took one photograph that cropped most of the essential details into one shot.
This beautiful built-in piece is made of two solid hardwoods. The real beauty in it was delivered by the cut of the wood revealing the grains rising into cathedral arches on all vertical lines and long deep continuous lines on all horizontal planes. This piece grabbed attention via its craftsmanship.
